Annette and Curtis Clay founded Empowered Actions in 2017 after spending their entire professional careers working towards individual and community safety and positive social change. They achieved this through supporting and engaging allies and potential partners in bringing forward their best ideas and efforts to fruition.  Their collective experience is a collection of over 60 years of accomplishments within community-based non-profits and public school/university settings. Curtis and Annette use the experiences from their body of work - such as program management, professional training, public policy, curriculum writing, and organizational development - to help guide institutions and organizations to their own tailored solutions for safe and nurturing environments.

The needs of non-profit organizations and schools vary based on size, location, local demographics, mission, and other specific factors.  Although we can all benefit from universal lessons, it's also true that most solutions must be customized to fit each unique setting.  Our experience as statewide technical assistance providers in a diverse state has allowed us to effectively reach myriad communities and help facilitate planning and implementation that is reflective of local needs, values, and priorities.

"[We] are so grateful for the expertise, wisdom and warmth that Annette brought to one of our largest programs that had been in the middle of a crisis. She re-created the program with a solid staff and renewed commitment in a very short period of time... Our Coalition would eagerly contract with [Empowered Actions] if similar situations arose in our state.”

Kim Alaburba, New Mexico Sexual Assault Services

“I have known and Curtis Clay for almost 20 years. He is an excellent leader, speaker, mentor and facilitator. He has extensive experience delivering Interpersonal Violence, Sexual Harassment, Bullying and Sexual Violence Prevention programming and training to a variety of audiences including college students, athletes, junior high and high school students.”

Julie Eckert, Texas State Student Health Center

“[Empowered Actions] is one of the state's best. [They have] the experience in school safety, audits, and emergency operations procedures and knows how to capture and audience and keep their attention throughout a course. Very intriguing and knowledgeable.”

Joe Munoz, Texas School Advocate
